Transition Words and Phrases

The second list deals specifically with transitions when you want to shift from one idea to another, and you want the reader to have a heads up.

Today, the National Debt is skyrocketing. According to the U.S. Debt Clock, the U.S. National Debt is $19.9 trillion dollars. According to National Priorities Project, the top three areas where we spend money are the military (16%), Medicare and healthcare (27%), and Social Security (33%). Regarding the nuclear arsenal, according to The Independant, Russia has 7500 nuclear weapons and the U.S. have 7200 nuclear weapons.

Weeks of 9/26/16 & 10/4/16: Excerpts from Roots: The Saga of an American Family by Alex Haley, Part I. The focus these two weeks will be on the life of Kunta Kinte when he lived in The Gambia in the 1750's. This section of Roots is being read in order to give students a sense of what life was like for many West Africans before they were kidnapped and taken to America as slaves.
