Fowler Museum at UCLA: Intersections: World Arts/Local Lives Program

E4/5 will learn how art has been and continues to be integrated within the real lives of people throughout the world. The program explores art from Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and the Americas; and we will integrate this into our understanding of West African culture as we read excerpts from Roots and as we learn about the Native Americans of the United States. Fowler Museum at UCLA: Reflecting Culture Program

E4/5 will get a tour of 251 silver artifacts that had been crafted between the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries, and it will include artifacts from Paul Revere's workshop! Click on the button below to see more details.
First, students learned about how the silver artwork from Mr. Fowler's collection reflects European and American cultures during the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries.
Second, since much of the silver artwork displayed coats of arms, the students imagined a coat of arms to reflect their own family and interests; and, using a square of thick foil, they drew their own coat of arms.

Students will experience life in colonial and revolutionary times by interacting with reenactors who will depict British soldiers investigating smugglers and American minutemen defending fellow patriots. The students will eat soldier rations and see replicas of uniforms and weapons from the era. Click on the button below for more details.

CA African American Museum: Taking Places: Selections from the Permanent Collection

Ms. Balcom, Manhattan Academy's Art Teacher, will join E4/5 for a tour of photographs and paintings depicting various landscapes that reflect the experiences of African Americans in various places and times in history. Afterwards, the students will create their own landscape paintings in a workshop with the museum. Please click on the button below for more details.

Washington D.C.: The Capital Tour (4 Days)

Through the student touring group, Education First: Explore America, E4/5 students will be able to fly to Washington D.C. to see all of the major sites, including the U.S. Capitol's Visitor's Center, the Washington Monument, the Smithsonian (National Museum of American History on one day and the National Zoological Park on another day), the National Archives, Memorials to Martin Luther King, Jr., FDR, Thomas Jefferson, Arlington Cemetery including the gravesite of JFK, Mount Vernon and more.
